The building here has been feeding people on the water since 1926, and for decades most locals knew it as Bonita Bill’s, the sort of open-air fish shack where you sat at a picnic table, ordered at the counter and watched the shrimp boats unload. It has been refreshed and renamed Bonita Fish Company, but the bones and the spirit are the same, and it still sits under the Matanzas Pass Bridge on San Carlos Island with the working fleet right alongside.
The menu is short and honest: fresh Gulf shrimp, grouper, fish sandwiches, baskets and cold beer, with the catch coming from the boats you can see from your seat. Live music most days, dogs welcome on the deck, and a mix of fishermen, boaters and visitors who found it once and keep coming back.
It shares a dock with its sister restaurant Dixie Fish Co. next door, so if one is packed you can walk thirty feet to the other. Go at lunch for the most relaxed pace, or late afternoon for music with the sunset over the bay. It is five minutes from the house and a real piece of Old Florida.
