Cabañas is the beachside bar at the DiamondHead resort, and it is as close to the water as you can get with a drink in your hand. Tables sit on a deck that runs straight onto the sand, so you can wander up from a swim, order a rum punch or a frozen something and stay for the sunset without ever putting shoes on.
The food is easy island fare: fish tacos, coconut shrimp, burgers, salads and a decent grouper sandwich. Nothing fussy, all of it good with a cold drink. There is live music most afternoons and evenings in season, and it is the kind of place where a quick stop turns into a whole evening once the band starts and the sky goes orange.
It is open to the public; you do not need to be a resort guest, just walk in from the beach or park in the resort lot. It gets busy around sunset, so grab a table a little early. Happy hour is a good bet if you are keeping an eye on the budget. Sister restaurant Cōste, upstairs at the same resort, is the option for a dressier dinner.
