Junkanoo is the kind of place you go when everyone in the group wants something different. It is a casual beachfront restaurant and bar on Estero Blvd with a long menu that runs from steamed mussels and fish tacos to burgers, wings, salads, pasta and a full breakfast in the morning. Portions are big, prices are reasonable and nobody is going to rush you.
The mussels are a favorite, served in a garlic white wine broth with bread to soak it up, and the fish tacos and grouper sandwich are solid choices for a beach lunch. There is a full bar, a decent list of frozen drinks and live music several nights a week. The dining room opens onto a deck with a view of the beach, so it works well for a sunset dinner without the wait of some of the busier spots.
It is family-friendly and relaxed about beach attire. Breakfast on the deck is a nice way to start a beach day, and happy hour in the late afternoon is good value. Just a short drive up the island from the house.
