Matanzas on the Bay

Right at the foot of the bridge on the bay side of Times Square, Matanzas on the Bay has been an island fixture for decades. It is a big, breezy waterfront place with a downstairs dining room and deck on Matanzas Pass, an upstairs bar with its own menu, and live music every single night of the week. Boats tie up at the dock out front; cars park behind.

Downstairs is the seafood restaurant: grouper, shrimp, oysters, steaks and a good kids’ menu, with the boats and the bridge lights as the backdrop. Upstairs is the more casual bar, known island-wide for its pizza and for the nightly entertainment, which ranges from acoustic sets to full bands depending on the night. It is a good place to go with a group that cannot agree on what kind of evening they want.

Sunset over the bay is the busiest time, so arrive early or book ahead in season. Arriving by boat is half the fun if you have rented one; call ahead about dock space. A five-minute drive from the house.
