The name says it all. Sunset Beach Tropical Grill is a beachfront patio restaurant on Estero Blvd whose tables sit just a few feet from the sand, with the Playmore Tiki Bar alongside it serving tropical cocktails under a thatched roof. It is built for one purpose: sitting outside with a drink while the sun goes down over the Gulf.
The menu is classic Florida beach food done well. Grouper sandwiches, crab cakes, lobster rolls, fish tacos, peel-and-eat shrimp and a good burger, along with salads and a kids’ menu. The tiki bar pours rum punches, frozen drinks and cold beer, and there is often live acoustic music in the late afternoon. It is casual, sandy-feet friendly and unhurried.
Arrive an hour before sunset to get a front-row table, because everyone else has the same plan. Lunch is quieter and the beach view is just as good. It is a short drive up Estero Blvd from the house, or an easy stop on the beach trolley.
