Yucatan Beach Stand Bar & Grill

Yucatan Beach Stand has been on Old San Carlos Blvd, a few steps from the sand at Times Square, for more than twenty years, and it wears that history proudly. It is an open-air bar and grill with a tiki roof, a painted VW bus out front, a big deck and a claim to the coldest beer on the beach that nobody seems to argue with.

The grouper sandwich is the thing to order; locals regularly rank it among the best in Southwest Florida, and it comes fried, grilled or blackened with a heap of fries. Fish tacos, shrimp baskets, wings and a good burger fill out the menu, and there is a frozen drink machine working overtime. Live music runs every night of the year, from afternoon acoustic sets to full bands late, so there is always something on.

It is casual and lively, popular with both visitors and the people who live here. Arrive from the beach for a late lunch, or come back after sunset for the music. Happy hour is generous. A five-minute drive from the house, or hop off the trolley at Times Square.
