Sun protection comes first, and it is worth taking seriously here. The Gulf Coast sun is stronger than it looks, especially with the water reflecting extra light back at you. Reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and polarized sunglasses will do more for your trip than almost anything else in the bag. A lightweight long-sleeve rash guard is worth packing too if you plan to spend real time on the water.
Clothing-wise, think light and quick-drying. Fort Myers Beach runs warm nearly year-round, so pack more swimwear and casual layers than you think you need, and fewer heavy items. Evenings can call for a light layer, especially in winter months when temperatures drop after sunset, but you are unlikely to need anything heavier than a light jacket even in January.
Footwear should lean casual. Sandals or flip-flops cover most of the trip, but pack one pair of comfortable closed shoes if you plan to walk Times Square in the evening or explore anywhere off the sand. Water shoes are worth bringing if you plan to wade around the rockier patches near the passes.
